Ned and Marge Smith had the idea to build an Inn back in the early 70's. They took numerous trip to New England, visiting the old classic Inns of that region. They learned quickly what they did and didn’t want. They wanted charm, antiques, casual comfort, hospitality and the feeling of community these Inns had, but they didn’t want ancient plumbing and electrical, dinky rooms, squeaky Ned and Margefloors and bathrooms down the hall.

So, they decided to build a new “old” Inn, filled with antiques, handmade stitcheries and quilts, local art, fireplaces and balconies, great views and great hospitality. They hired one of their sons, Doug, who was a local builder to construct the Inn. They hired another son, Jim, to do the stone work the Inn is known for. And the women of the family, Marge, daughter Kate and grandmother Nummy decorated the rooms. The Inn was opened in August of 1975. Ned and Marge ran the Inn themselves for seven years before turning it over to their son, Jim. Jim has run it ever since and is hoping his children, the third generation will be interested soon.
